Riot On Sunset - 2016

Riot On Sunset issued on July 15th, 2016 with much anticipation and social media buzz, having been funded via a successful PledgeMusic.com campaign. James returned whole-heartedly to his roots of rock 'n roll in this eclectic album that hits hard with tracks like the acclaimed "Beautiful," "City of Nightmares," first single "Smackdown" and anthemic "We Are The Unknown" as well as a gentler tracks like "Mustang Livin'" and the touching "Keeps Me Alive." Casey Abrams stops in for a cameo in "Scratchers n Cheap Beer." This third full-length release showcases James' versatility and drive throughout the span of emotions in these mostly-self-composed songs and really shows what an excellent songwriter he is, despite his youth. The tracks that stand out for me on this album are "Beautiful" with James' soaring, octave-busting vocals and hard, driving rhythm; "Riot on Sunset," written when James was 19; and "Lost in the Shadows" which is a completely addicting track musically. I hope this album gets the attention it so deeply deserves, it's an out-of-the-park homerun for sure!

Celebrate - 2013

Celebrate has been mastered and the first single, #Parachute, launched 11/22/13. A well-received and much anticipated track with a huge, powerful chorus, inspiring lyrics and awesome hook, Parachute is catchy and fun and reflects James' growth and maturation over the last two years. Quoted as describing MOABD as feeling "angry and frustrated", Celebrate looks to feel much more positive and upbeat, if Parachute is any evidence of the rest of the tracks. James is clearly celebrating his youth, his profound gifts and expressing his gratitude for being able to live his dream. You can find the lyrics to Parachute on our News page, so sing along!

Release date was April 8, 2014 and you can pre-order some sweet packages at shop.durbinrock.com as well as support the TSA and Autism Speaks with your purchases.

Memories of a Beautiful Disaster - 2011

Released November 21, 2011, "MOABD" is an incredibly impressive and introspective debut album (in collaboration with some of the biggest names in the American music business) full of hard rocking to touchingly mellow music guaranteed to have you singing along. James explains the title as looking back on his life and examining what he thought at the time were disasters, but his struggles with and triumphs over which (Tourette's, Asperger's, bullying, etc.) have made him the man and musician he is today. We say truly Beautiful, inside and out, James.

Warning: No fluff here. Contents: REAL ROCK 'n ROLL.

Lyrics:
Crawlin' Home

[DJ Ashba, James Durbin]

It's been seven months out on the road
The bottom of the bottle is getting old
I just tried to call you, I guess nobody is home
So I drink all night just to get me through
The picture in my mind is all I have of you
I just miss you baby, hope you miss me too.

No matter where you go my heart is sure to follow
Alone again my heart is broken.

(chorus)
I wish I could have just one kiss
Love the taste of your lips
Feel them close to mine.
Crawling home tonight

I was a small town boy with a big time dream
But the money and the fame don't mean a thing
I'd give them all away just to be with you.
I've been around the world just a couple of times
It didn't take that long for me to realize
That there's noone out here with a heart like you.

No matter where you go my heart is sure to follow
Alone again My heart is broken

(repeat chorus)
Promise everytime you hear this
Baby know that I miss being by your side

Crawling home tonight
Crawling home tonight

(repeat chorus)
Promise everytime you hear this
Baby know that I miss being by your side

Crawling home tonight
Crawling home tonight

Lyrics:
Back For More

[Peter Stengaard]

You can run but you can’t lie
I can taste it on my lips and it tastes alright
There’s no way you can deny
That it turns you upside down when we collide

(chorus)
I got a feelin’ after all you’ll be comin’ back for more, more, yeah, yeah
You crossed the line
You lost your mind
But you’re all mine

Like a gun I’m by your side
If your amin’ for the truth then shoot up high
There's no one under the sun
Who can cure you like I do when you come undone

Chorus
You crossed the line
You lost your mind
But you’re all mine
Always mine
Always mine

I got a feelin’ after all you’ll be comin’ back for more, oh, yeah yeah
Crossed the line
Crossed the line
Crossed the line
You lost your mind
But you’re all mine
Crossed the line
You lost your mind
But you’re all mine
Always mine

Lyrics:
Liberate

[Blair Daly, Derek Fuhrmann]

Four walls - like a prison
Feels like another victim
Something's wrong
Something's missing
You scream when it hurts but there's nobody listening

Getting' sick - going psycho
Burning quick - a downward spiral
Not a slave or an animal
Someone break me out this cage

(chorus)
It's time to liberate (HEY)
From everyone who loves to hate (HATE)
From everything that's makin you live a lie
Don't you think it's time to twist your fate
Liberate

Feels like a prosecution
Wanna start a revolution
Time to use your illusion
'Cause life moves fast once you learn to abuse it

Sometimes you gotta set the house on fire
To make the world burn a little brighter
Gotta break out this cage

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
Woah, wakin up inside
I'm takin on this fight (now I feel so alive)
Fight (we're taking on this fight)
Yeah

(repeat chorus x 2)

Lyrics:
Stand Up

[Paul Trust, Clifford Newton]

Tonight, I’m okay
When the lights go down
And I hit the stage.
I’m alive, there’s no way
You can stop me now,
It’s in my veins.
I can’t wait,
Let’s start the show!

(chorus)
It’s time to see you stand up
Let me see your hands up
Wanna hear you shout it out
(Come on)
Tell me if you want it.
Stand up!
Let me see your hands up
Wanna hear you shout it out
Tell me if you’re ready to go.
Ready to go!

Turn it up, let it grind,
Just plug me in, I’m amplified.
Can’t stop me, block me!
Don’t care if it’s the death of me
Tickin’ like a time bomb
Ready to blow.
Now it’s time,
Let’s start the show!

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
Time won’t wait for anyone
Cause we don’t live forever
And if you think I’ve had enough
I’m only getting started now
You’ll see...
The lights are shining on me.
Yeah yeah

(repeat chorus x2)

Tell me if you’re ready to go.

Lyrics:
Everything Burns

[Ben Moody]

She sits in a corner
Singing herself to sleep
Wrapped in all of her promises
That no one seemed to keep
She no longer cries to herself
No tears left to wash away
Just diaries of empty pages
Feelings gone astray
But she will sing

(chorus)
'Til everything burns
While everyone screams
Burning their lies
Burning my dreams
All of this hate
All of this pain
I'll burn it all down
As my anger reigns
'Til everything burns

Walking through life unnoticed
Knowing that no one cares
Too consumed in their masquerade
No one see her there
And still she sings

(repeat chorus)

Everything burns [x3]
Watching it all fade away
Everything burns

(repeat chorus)

Everything burns [x2]
Watching it all fade away
Everything burns [x2]
Watching it all fade away

Lyrics:
Outcast

[Magnus Andreasson, Martin Sandvik, Mick Mars, James Durbin]

It's not easy enough
The way I am makes it tough
Come get your phone
Don't wanna be here alone
Someday I will be fine
Be able to see the sunshine
Appreciate what's mine
Appreciate that I'm one of a kind

I still believe
Though I'm on my knees
Yeah, I still believe

(chorus)
You're the outcast
You cry when we all laugh
I'll be the one that you want to be the outcast
You're the outcast
I cry when you all laugh
Outcast!

Someday we will be fine
Be able to see the sunshine
We won't go into it blind
We'll appreciate that we're one of a kind

I still believe
Though I'm on my knees
Yeah, we'll still be free

(repeat chorus)

Lyrics:
Screaming

[James Durbin, Gregg Wattenberg, Ryan Star, Bobby Alt, David Cook]

My parents said it wouldn't last forever
And I'm still waiting to get better
Liars, and they're lying to me now
I always knew that I wouldn't fit in
Kicked out, but I never caved in
Liars, and I'm dealing with it now
Now!

(chorus)
I'm screaming! (Screaming for my losers)
Screaming! (Scream at the abusers)
Show 'em that we're fed up
Come and throw your hands up
Oh, oh, oh
We're screaming! (Everybody hates us)
Screaming! (Cause they could never break us)
We're not gonna give up
Come and throw your hands up
Oh, oh, oh

Got a lot of friends worth losing
I've got a lot of friends just using me
So can you hear my battle cry?

(repeat chorus)

The world said it wouldn't last forever
But we're done waiting to get better
Liars! They're all liars!

(repeat chorus)

Lyrics:
May

[Doug Brown]

May and I were two children just swimming in a pool
We'd ride on rocket swing-sets and we'd try to touch the moon
And I will never forget the first time she touched my hand
I knew this could be the one who would make me an honest man

She was like the way she was
She was like the way she was

Now, we got older faster than we ever could have seen
Lights went down on graduation then on a wedding ring
We bought our first house and had a baby on the way
But during birth, I got my daughter
Jesus took away my May

And I didn't know how to say what I felt
No, I didn't know how to say what it felt like

(chorus)
She was just like she was
When you looked into her eyes you'd come undone
She was just like she was
She could love you on your worst day
And didn't care about the mistakes
She was like she was

Now, baby girls love daddy most
But they need a mother's care
I tried my best to raise her right
I just couldn't braid her hair
One day she got old enough to have her wedding day
But as I walked her down the aisle
All I could see was my May

And I didn't know how to say what I felt
No, I didn't know how to say what it felt like

She was just like she was
When you looked into her eyes you'd see the sun
She was just like she was
She could love you on your worst day
And didn't care about the mistakes
She was like she was

(bridge)
But May, I hope you can see what I see
'Cause when they talk about our baby girl, they think of you
And they say to me

She was just like she was
When you looked into her eyes you'd come undone
She was just like she was
She could love you on your worst day
And didn't care about the mistakes
She was like she was

Lyrics:
Deeper

[Grady Benson, Aidean Abounasseri, Joao Barao Neto]

I lost myself again
In the dead of the night, the dead of the night
I'm on a chase of fate as the world rushes by
I'm bound to collide
And now I won't wait to walk away
My last mistake
Every time I go under I'm running from this

(chorus)
And I try so hard
But I can't wake up
I'm speeding off the meter and the sirens echo on
And it's all too wrong
But I can't let go
I'm falling even deeper, but it's better than before

I found myself again
With the dead of the night, the dead of the night
It takes me to a place
That I wish I could find - a way out of my mind
Too much to think
Too late to stay
I try to break
But again and again I am calling for help

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
It hurts to go
So what do you need?
So why do you need
To see me walk right out the door?
I'm on my way
Help!

(repeat chorus)

Lyrics:
Love Me Bad

[Marti Frederiksen, Mark Holman]

A cigarette fills an empty room
Smell of heartbreak's a cheap perfume
Photos scattered across my wall
Maybe someday I’ll take them off

(pre-chorus)
But I miss you
Yeah, I still miss you

(chorus)
And In the middle of the night
When I feel you by my side,
Well it’s nothing but a memory.
What if we never said goodbye,
If I never made you cry
Oh, baby this is killing me,
So love me bad, love me bad
Yeah love me bad again.

All those words I never said,
On my lips, tastes like regret.
Promises like fake tattoos
After all that we've been through
Well I miss you
Yeah, I still miss you

Lyrics:
Right Behind You

[Prince Villiam, James Durbin]

Something so familiar
It's like I met you somewhere before, before
I can finish your sentence
I can feel you behind the door, the door
Turn off the headlights
I'll do the pedals and you can steer
Into the darkness
Trust me there's nothing to fear, to fear

(chorus)
Close your eyes
Fall backwards
I won't let you die
I'll be right behind you
Close your eyes
Just let yourself go
I won't let you die
I'll be right behind you

You don't have to say it
It's like I know when you're gonna call, and you call
I wasn't conscious
I could see that you were not far, not far
You can kill the headlights
I'll do the pedals and you can steer
Into the darkness
Trust me there's nothing to fear, to fear

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
You gotta trust me
You gotta trust me
Do you trust me?
Do you trust me?

(repeat chorus)

I won't let you die
I'll be right behind you

Lyrics:
Love In Ruins

[Charlotte Caffey, Steven McDonald, Anna Waronker]

I see your eyes
You know they never change
Oh, the way they look at me
I see they're lookin' for a better way
Longin' to be free
'Cause ya know we been here before
And ya know we'll do it again

(chorus)
Woah what are we doin'?
Look at our love in ruins
Let's not get misunderstood 'cause this is good
And you're pickin' all your pieces off the ground
And you're pickin' all your pieces off the ground

This time this one blew up in my face
Don't forget, forgive me, please
You want everything to fall in place
But surrender is the key
'Cause ya know we been here before
And ya know we'll do it again

(repeat chorus x2)

Lyrics:
All I Want

[Zach Webb, Jasen Rauch]

You showed me love
And I wasn't quite sure just what to do with it
You saw my pain and you took me in with open arms
I'm not sure just what you saw
Maybe the better parts of me
All I know is that what I have
Is all I'll ever need

(chorus)
You know I'm livin' a life worth livin'
It's bright enough to see
That all I want, yeah all I want is you
And even if the world was in my hands
Well, I'd just want you to know
That all I want, yeah all I want is you, is you, is you

You took your time
And you didn't give a damn just what they thought of it
You eased my mind
And I've never been sure how to do that myself
I don't know where you came from
Did you fall right out the sky?
All I know is what you fell upon
It finally feels alive

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
There was only so much I could take
You opened up and made me change
Yeah, you always helped me through
And I'll do the same for you
I'll do the same for you

(repeat chorus)

Lyrics:
Higher Than Heaven

[James Durbin; Marti Frederksen, James Michael]

What was love?
Something that I just dreamed of
Somewhere in the corner of my heart
Rippin' and tearin' me apart
Oh, I was numb and had my demons
I lost hope, you gave me reason

(chorus)
Angels saved me
God forgave me
But you alone take me higher than heaven
I don't need mercy,
Nothing can hurt me
As long as you're with me,
I'm higher than heaven

Goin' insane
I was on a one-way train
Surrounded by my so-called friends
But this ain't where the story ends
Or where it begins
I was numb and had my demons
I gave up, but you believed

(repeat chorus)
